With SmokeLab, you have a valuable tool to help you become the best pitmaster you can be. We have created a platform to make it easy to record the equipment, conditions and results of your cooks and have made a simple way to look back at what cooks have been successes and what have been failures. Better BBQ is your goal and we’re committed to helping you achieve that. Read on to see how.

How it works

Create your profile

Along with some general information about you, enter the equipment you use – your smoker(s), your grills, your thermometers. These can be easily selected for each cook.

Prepare your cook

Document the characteristics of your meat such as where you bought it, its weight, your rubs, your injection or marinade, and the type of wood, charcoal, or pellets you use. We’ve made this as easy as we can by integrating UPC scanning for fast and accurate recording. Of course, your individuality comes out in each cook, so we’ve added notes fields to capture what extra observations you’ve made or techniques you’ve used. The talk to text feature available throughout the app makes this easy and keeps your phone clean.

Start Your Cook

Although low and slow means you don’t have to spend all your time tending to your meal, it’s vital to record your observations and activities throughout your cook. When did you start your cook, did you mop or spray? When? Did you wrap then unwrap? When? What temperatures did you achieve over the course of your cook? How did you tend to your fire? All of this information can be captured with simple taps of our buttons and specialized activities can be added as needed, all with time stamps so you know precisely what you did and when.

Rate your cook

Appearance, taste and tenderness are the main categories for judging BBQ for a reason, so you can rate your cooks for each of these categories along with an overall rating. Take pictures of your BBQ throughout the process and upload them, along with a screenshot of from your thermometer if you’re using one. Add any notes, and click save. The app will pull information about your local weather at the beginning and end of the cook automatically.

share your cook

SmokeLab's user-friendly interface allows you to share the results of your backyard masterpieces with your friends on Facebook and Instagram.  Use the Share function to post a photo along with the scores you've assigned for appearance, taste, tenderness, and overall rating of your latest cooks.  Stay connected with your culinary community and showcase your favorite BBQ achievements.

Review your library of past cooks

SmokeLab allows you to search your past cooks according to a variety of characteristics including rating, date, or simply to view all of your cooks. Clicking on
any individual cook brings up a summary of all of the information that you entered during your cook so that you can show off to your friends or determine what you need to do the same or differently to make the next cook even better.
